Why a litecoin payout costs so little on chain
A litecoin transaction spends earlier outputs, called UTXOs, and pays by its size in virtual bytes, like bitcoin. Litecoin produces a block every two and a half minutes and its blocks are seldom full, so the rate per byte needed to get in stays low. A typical payout costs the sender a small fraction of a cent.
An exchange paying out many small litecoin amounts also has to manage its own UTXOs: a wallet full of tiny coins makes every later transaction bigger. Some price that housekeeping into a flat fee, some do not, and that is most of the spread in the table. Since May 2022 litecoin also has MWEB, an optional privacy layer with its own address type.
Before you receive litecoin
- Use an ordinary litecoin address unless told otherwise. Addresses starting ltc1, L or M are standard. MWEB addresses start ltcmweb1, and many exchanges cannot send to them.
- A litecoin address is not a bitcoin address. They look alike, especially the ltc1 and bc1 forms. Check the prefix before you paste.
- Confirmations come quickly. At one block every two and a half minutes, a payout usually confirms within minutes.

Litecoin blocks arrive every two and a half minutes and are rarely full, so the rate needed per byte stays low and a simple payment costs a fraction of a cent.
Why do exchanges charge such different litecoin fees?
The chain’s cost is small for everyone, so the difference is how each exchange prices its own handling. Each row on this page carries its basis and date.
Can I receive litecoin at an MWEB address?
Only if the sending exchange supports MWEB. Many do not, so use a standard ltc1, L or M address unless the exchange says otherwise.
