The flat fee alone, as a share of a swap worth that much; each exchange’s percentage part comes on top. A fee from checks of an exchange’s own website is the median of that site’s own fits on this coin, marked Est. once it is more than a day old; an estimate from its quotes to Cambio is used only where no site check exists.
Why a first USDT payout on Solana costs more: token-account rent
On Solana a wallet does not hold tokens directly. Each token sits in its own associated token account, and a wallet that has never held USDT has no such account yet. The sender of the first payout creates it and funds it with a rent-exempt deposit of 0.00203928 SOL, which stays locked in the account. The transaction fee itself is tiny by comparison: 5,000 lamports, or 0.000005 SOL, per signature, plus an optional priority fee when the network is busy.
So a USDT payout to a wallet that already holds USDT costs almost nothing, and one to a fresh wallet costs a couple of tenths of a dollar in rent. An exchange cannot always tell in advance which case it is in, and most charge one fee that covers the expensive one. Cambio learned this the hard way when it paid from its own wallets in August 2026: a token fee set below the rent was used by an automated sender, 36 times, before it was raised. Before you receive USDT or USDC on Solana
- Give your main wallet address, not a token account. Most Solana wallets show one address for everything. The sender derives the USDT account from it.
- USDT and USDC are different mints. Make sure the receiving side expects the token you are buying. A wallet can hold both, but an exchange deposit address may accept only one.
- Closing an empty token account returns its rent to you. If you empty and close the USDT account later, its rent deposit comes back to the wallet.

Why does sending USDT on Solana cost more than the transaction fee?
Because a wallet that has never held USDT needs a token account, and opening it takes a rent-exempt deposit of 0.00203928 SOL that the sender pays. The transaction fee is only 0.000005 SOL per signature.
Do I pay the token-account rent?
Not directly. The exchange sending your payout funds the account; its fee is set to cover that. If you later close the account, the deposit returns to your wallet.
Is USDC on Solana priced the same way?
